I had the joy of having breakfast with my old co-workers today. Not that they are old, but from my old job. LOL!! It was great to see everyone again. We decided to make a trip to the local ARC Thrift Store after our breakfast.
I stumbled on this beauty!
I know it's a little much..

But if you get rid of the skirt, the jacket is not too bad. Even though my darling son tells me, it looks like ole lady clothes!
Now this is why I got so excited. It's a real Pendleton wool outfit. I have always wanted a Pendleton jacket, but those prices... OUCH!
Can you imagine? $12.99 for both pieces.
The skirt is mid-calf length, and I would never wear anything like this, but WOW is there a lot of yardage of fabulous wool for a project down the road.
I am open to any ideas you might have for it! :-)
My other big "score" is this bag of silk ties. I have been dreaming of making a silk tie quilt, and have some that a friend gifted me. Now with these, I think I have enough to get myself started on a new adventure!
Again, I am open to any ideas you might share on silk tie quilts.
So besides a great breakfast and good friends, I feel like I hit the jackpot today!
:-)
It would round out a wonderful day, if you could help me decide how to use my new found treasures!
Twenty plus years ago when I had to dress up for work, I had a few Pendleton outfits. You got a very nice deal. An idea for the silk ties would be a "crazy quilt"! Can't wait to see what you do with the skirt. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteOooh good buys! Felt the skirt and see how it looks~ would probably be great in Christmas patterns. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a find!! I'd be interested in seeing the tie quilt. I've never heard of it before, of course, I'm fairly new to quilting. Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteQuilters are amazing. Can't even go out for breakfast without finding something to sew! I laugh at the way we see things through different eyes. I am sure the person who donated the jacket and skirt had no idea it would end up in a sewing project. I do love the way recycling brings new life to otherwise unwanted items. I would probably agree with felting the skirt and using it for soft toys and some penny rugs. No ideas for he ties yet. have fun!
ReplyDeleteYou really did score! I have a small collection of silk ties and hope to one day make a quilt - once I get some more. So I'll be watching to see what ideas you come up with.
ReplyDeleteWow....that really is a score! I do agree that the whole outfit is a bit much if you're over 25 but the ideas are tumbling in my mind. Make yourself a lovely fringed scarf and a Tcottish tam to wear with the jacket. Gift a special someone with a scarf as well this Christmas. I would make a plaid vest with silk lining and a matching tam for my daughter's bear for Christmas (she's 41 and takes good care of him) and maybe even a skirt and tam for my Disney Girl doll (same as American Girl dolls). And any bits and pieces left over you can felt for penny rugs or quilts. There's a log of yardage there if you take it apart, including the waistband. It will be fun to see what you decide to do with it.
ReplyDeleteoops.....typo - should have been Scottish tam....hahaha.
DeleteThat Pendelton outfit is a major score!!!! That is amazing and the price is unheard of. I'll be watching to see what you do with your ties. I have a bag of my FIL's ties that I would like to do something with for each of his sons.
