Dare to Dresden Blog Hop

I had no plans to participate in this hop. None what so ever. You see, my mind shut down, and I couldn't think of anything to do.  But in the 11th hour, I had one of those "eureka" moments. I was sitting down catching up on my blog reading, when I stumbled across this post from Sweet P Quilting and Creations.
http://sweetp-paulette.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-wheels-on-truck-go-round-and-round.html

That's when the light bulb lit. That title opened up the door in my mind, and I knew what my project was going to be.

                                    The Wheels on the Truck!

You see my boys loved Monster Trucks when the were little. We went to just about every event there was in town. We had all the little toy Monster Trucks. We had to stop and look at every truck that might remotely be considered a Monster Truck.

Heck, they were even driving them at an early age.

If it wasn't the truck itself, it was tires!

And there you have it, Tires!
Sweet P knew that all along.
I can do tires with Dresdens.
My ah-ha moment!

After a marathon day and night in my sewing room, it's here.

Little Boys Joys become Big Boys Toys

The truck came from my favorite scrap booking book, called 203 Paper Piecing Patterns. The book is long out of print unfortunately, but I use it all the time, not for scrap booking, but for applique designs. I love the versatility of their patterns.

Now, how about those Dresdens?

:-)

My little boys are no longer little, and monster trucks are not so big with them these days, but I will always have those memories of days gone by.

As for my oldest son... well, lets just say, its "still"all about tires. Racing slicks now. Some times you just can't take the "kid" out of anyone!

A big thanks to the wonderful Christine, from Quilt Monster in my Closet.
She was gracious enough to allow me to play at the last moment, and I am so glad I did.

Madame Samm, you've done it again. Another fabulously fun blog hop!

I am bowled over with inspiration from all the fabulous Dresdens. A huge thanks to all of you for opening my mind to the incredible possibilities for these lovely little and sometimes BIG dresdens.
I had no idea.
What I really should be saying here is "shame on all of you". I want  you to know that it's you, each and every one of you, who are going to be responsible for my UFOs still not seeing a finish. I have way to many Dresdens to play with now...
:-)

It's give a way time. Oh boy oh joy!!
OK, I know that was bad, but it was so fitting. LOL!

For this give a away, I want to know what you kids were crazy about, and what kind of a memory quilt/quiltie you might make.  Who knows, this might be the year we inspire each other, to make those memories come alive!

Now my prize!  A $20 gift certificate from Sew Lux Fabric & Gifts. I was delighted to win one of these guys from Felicia over at The Slow Quilter, on the last blog hop. I had never visited Sew Lux, but was delighted with them. They have a great fabrics and a newsletter that's geared towards our blogging world and what's, in it. The service is lightening fast! Best yet, it's like Christmas when you open your package! I can't wait to share it with YOU!

Leave me a comment, and remember you must be a follower. I will be picking a winner on Saturday Feb 2.

Don't forget to visit my fellow bloggers today, or last day of the hop.
And a big thanks to everyone who inspired me sew very much! My mind is no longer in a fog, over Dresdens!

Horses, two of my girls were obsessed with horses, and the other was obsessed with wolves! I did make her a wolf wall hanging, guess now I need to make horses!! It really should be enough that I have my own horse now, right??? Thank you for the awesome giveaway!

  9. You had boys like mine with the monster trucks and even race cars. We had a neighbor who was a race car driver and my oldest son just idolized that guy. Every single time he saw him come home from work my son ran out the door and over to say hi. It was too cute because he was only about 3 yrs old at the time and the man next door had no children at the time and just loved my son.

Your truck block is awesome. How fun.

  14. I just made my 4 year old grandson a quilt with dump trucks and front end loaders and all kinds of construction stuff on it - but he would have really loved this one! Football is the passion around my house. My husband coached and now my son coaches. So anything with a football on it is immediately grabbed up. :) blessings, marlene

  15. My family is into music, so I have made a few music themed quilts. Haven't figured out yet how to incorporate Dresdens into our interests...that's your gift, I see!

  20. What a fun quilt to capture Dresdens! And it certainly is meaningful for you and your family. As for a memory quilt? If I had the skills, I'd definitely make an art quilt that depicts the mountains where we live with all the rich hues and colors that nature provides and humans recreate in fabric. Ah, to dream....

    ReplyDelete
  21. What a creative idea! I have a 4 year old who would love this...but he loves construction equipment more and lately has been requesting a dump truck quilt! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. If I could, I would make a quilt with little Dachshunds on each square. Then everyone in the family could sign a dachshund. When I was growing up our family of 7 children got a doxie for Christmas. Then my sister got a doxie herself, now I have 3 of them. I think at a family reunion I would take the quilt and have everyone sign their own doxie, and pass on the quilt. I just don't have the pattern for a doxie, or the skill I think to do this. Perhaps one day I will find a pattern outline for a doxie, and fuse a ton of them onto squares. Add I just don't know how it would look like a doxie. I've seen scottie dogs, and those look just like them..

    ReplyDelete
  23. Can't do better than MommaRock's quilt idea- not having been blessed with children, God gave us dachshunds instead! Hubby is into trains so would work with trains for a quilt for him

  53. Great use of dresdens! I think I may 'steal' that idea next time I need a wheel!
My boys were into trucks, cars, construction vehicles, my girls were into dolls and anything with sunflowers or zoo animals.

  73. One son is really into remote control airplane/helicopter flying, the other into downhill mountain biking. I have made a quilt for the older one that was made with mountain biking fabric I was lucky enough to find at the time of his hs graduation. The other will get his flying quilt this year as he finishes hs and goes off to college. I have also collected lots of novelty fabrics that will find their way into memory quilts for them one day too...

Your Dresden cracked me up! I love it! So ingenious. And very true; my nephew (3) can't get enough of *anything* with wheels - and his daddy? Just as bad. I think he owns...4?...off-roading 4x4s?

    Sigh.

Thank you for the chance to win - and you're right - I love Sew Lux - I love how the tissue paper matches her store! And her sale/end of bolt sections are awesome...just ask my credit card, lol!

  77. Our boys were into John Deeres--our daughter into books. She is working on a masters degree in library science, so that is still her top interest. No memory quilts for this year. I made my daughter a t-shirt quilt from high school t-shirts when she went to college. The best memory quilt I made was for my son and daughter-in-law from favorite shirts and pajamas belonging to my grandson, Nathan, who passed away from cancer at age 7. His favorite was a blue dress shirt and tie--both included on the quilt. My machine quilting wasn't very good, but that was 6 years ago, and I know they will always treasure it.

  80. I am a follower with Google FC and Reader. That quilt with the monster truck is rip-roaring! What a marvelous idea. It's been a long time since my kiddos were little but a couple of them loved stickers - in fact, there were books full of stickers. Some they stuck into the books and others were still in the packages. They told me the other day that they are using those stickers for chore boards for their own kids. Sweet. I'll need more thinking time to come up with a quilt idea!
