As she ran around the house screaming Nancy Drew, Nancy Drew, I know just what to do...
Wednesday November 14th, 2012... Remember that day?
That was the day Madame Samm announced that there was going to be a Nancy Drew Blog Hop and details were to come. Well, I just couldn't wait for details to start my project. One thing I have never been accused of, is patiently waiting for anything! :-) I've had this crazy idea rolling around in my head for some time now, and that was the moment it all spilled out! To work I went without any further ado, and put together "Get a Clue Sue"...
Like I said, this one had been rolling around in my head for a very long time. Actually, ever since I bought the book International Sun Bonnet Sues, and found the adorable "Clue Sue" inside.
NOTE: I enlarged her quite a bit for my quilt.
But oh-no, the rules said I had to use Nancy Drew fabrics. By the time I read the rules, I had the quilt almost done. That'll teach me to not jump in and run...
The fabrics were no where to be found yet. What to do, what to do???
Heck, this was sew much fun... that another was due!
So, here you have my official Nancy Drew-Get a Clue Quilt. The "Drew" fabrics are my borders. It allowed me to work on my project while I waited for the fabrics to arrive. Which lead to another issue! Apparently I just can't add... (Go figure) When the fabrics were available, I quickly ordered online. As soon as it arrived, I dove in to cut my borders... arrrrrrgh, I was short fabric to make all 4, and to make matters worse, there was no more.
These fabrics disappeared overnight and no shops in my area, had ordered this line. All my favorite online shops were out! But luckily enough, a Google search with the fabric number, revealed a shop in Oklahoma City that had a partial bolt of what I needed. Lesson learned, measure once, measure twice, then double that number and order!! LOL!! Isn't that what "stash" is all about anyway! :-)
Don't you love the logo for this hop? I am sure our beloved Madame Samm, must have had a hand it it. I enlarged it and added it to my quilt. Hope you don't mind, but it was just what it needed, and I have a "forever" memory of YOU! ;-)
So whether you like my unofficial "Sunbonnet Sue Clue" quilt...
If your looking for the Quilting Gallery Blog Hop... Check the March 8th posting. It's a busy time here in the MooseStash! :-) Whew!

Time to go...
Ey-ey matie!
I love it! Both of them. After your I-spy idea my favorite one is the "poloroid" quilt. They're all framed to look like poloroid pictures tossed onto a background. Super fun quilts you made.
ReplyDeleteI like both your quilts, but if I have to pick one I would go with the Sunbonnet Clue even though there is no Nancy Drew. How about an I Spy quilt that combines the two? Ms Nancy Drew says to Ms Sunbonnet Sue, "Elementary, my dear Sue!" and the two follow the I Spy clues that are easy as A-B-C and 1-2-3. ;) Thanks for sharing ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteThey are both great quilts! My favorite is the Nancy quilt. I don't know where you found the time to do two quilts! Just amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love them both, I would never had thought to make a eye spy quilt like that. That is a winner to me. I had to look close to see what were in the spyglass. WHAT A GREAT QUILT, and I will have to still your idea when I can find the spyglass fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove both of your Eye Spy quilts! The Sunbonnet Sue is sew cute. Thank you for sharing and the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these quilts are wonderful! Such a great idea - where did you find the clue... Please don't put my name in for the giveaway. I would never wear the jumper. I just wanted to tell you how much I like the quilts.

ReplyDeleteGreat quilts - I like them both!
ReplyDeleteIt`s always fun to visit your blog. Your Nancy Drew quilts are truly inspiring and fun. I wish I had your imagination. A wall quilt would be my next Nancy Drew project. I love bright colors and remembering those great books.
ReplyDeleteYour 'I Spy' quilts are such a fun idea! Love them both.
ReplyDeleteOh both are very cute. I really like the SB Spy Sue you did a great job..take care and have a fun day.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic I spy quilt. I love Clue Sue she is just fabulous. I love how your mind really jumped right in there and it was dead on right to me. Can't believe you took the time to do her again with Nancy Drew fabs that is awesome!!! Congrats for knocking the ball out of the park. Home Run!!!
ReplyDeletegreat projects. I am a follower of your blog allready. I have never made a I spy quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts, I have just bought a charm pack of different fabrics, for an eye spy quilt for my grandsons.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know that I could top these AWESOME ideas, but do you remember that old memory game where you had to flip a card to make a match? Well I was thinking of a quilt where it looks like I spy Squares but each is a half square triangle actually is sewn to flip over and reveal a match. I have NOOOO idea how to engineer that. I'm not that good of a quilter. It is just an idea that popped into my head.
ReplyDeleteI love them both! What a great quilt idea for an "I Spy" game for children. Your little magnifying glasses are just too cute. Thanks for sharing both of them with us!
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilt! thank's for sharing
ReplyDeletehave a nice day
I've been wondering how to showcase the fabrics I've been collecting all these years...maybe an idea like yours. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I don't even know where to start- I love these quilts that much!
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh....this is brilliant Joan...of course the silouhette is striking and yes a natural for your quilt design..adorable in every way

DeleteThis is, by far, my favourite in this hop! Your imagination is working overtime:)
ReplyDeleteBoth are cute but this is the first Sunbonnet Sue that's been different and I do love a mystery.
Thank you for the chance :)
How about something with characters from children's books as an idea?
Both of the quilts are so cute
ReplyDeleteFollowing---and I make a lot of pro bono quilts and in fact have an Ami Simms I spy started but this would work for the duplicate novelties or extras. Oh yeah, I overcut---a lot!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to track down the fabrics that you needed to finish up your ND quilt. Congrats on most creative of the day too.
I love them both!! I've been both a Keene and Doyle fan from way back. They have been such great favorites in my reading career, so both of your quilts appeal to me. I think an animal "I Spy" would make for a cute quilt for either a boy or girl. Thank you for the chance to win that wonderful jumper pattern. It would be cute done in country fabrics. I also wanted to let you know that I enjoy your newsletters and I'm now follower #656.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Tricia
I just dropped in to say I absolutely love your I spy quilts - both of them. I take it that the pattern is in the Sunbonnet Sue book that you showed?

ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are great! Glad you didn't give up and made another one....great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pattern for an eye-spy quilt! I love both quilts. Using the exploding pineapple would make a cute eye-spy quilt, also.
ReplyDeleteI literally gasped when I saw your quilt with the magnifying glasses because I got so excited! What an awesome idea!! I would have never thought to do that! I love both quilts. It's actually a really neat quilt (besides having the best most awesome idea) because you can fussy cut your scraps for the "clues", but it allows you to show off your quilting, like how you showed us what you did. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I LOVE it! I'm a new follower
ReplyDelete-karrie

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! Sue Clue is too cute for words!! Fun, fun, fun.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are stunning!! Really!! BTW, You left Grandmamas Stories off your list. I entered late so you may have posted before you got an updated list so I'll let you slide this time!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Gmama Jane
I always look forward to what you create. That's why I am a follower! Great.
ReplyDeleteI spied a mystery..."The Mystery of the Missing Quilt". Where or where did that marvelous mysterious spying quilt come from? First, I always go to each and every bloggers site on the hops to see what creations they have made. NEVER do I ruin the surprise by going to Sew WE Quilt until I've visited every blog. BUT...Madame Samm has singled out a quilt that is totally NEW to me. "Egads!! NO! I'll just close my eyes so quickly that I won't really see it...but no, I can't, it's just too marvelous. Drats!" Back to the list I go to find the Missing Quilt and here I find the wonderful quilt is yours and it's an I Spy quilt, too! Just tooooo lovely. The best I Spy quilt I've ever seen. Thank you. Case solved and closed.
ReplyDeleteI love making I Spy quilts and these two you made are wonderful! Did you applique the magnifying glass and the novelty print on each block? Great job!!!!
ReplyDeleteCute spin on an i-spy quilt.
ReplyDeleteHIya!!! Love the quilts!!! And the jumper pattern, I love to wear jumpers. I've never really thought about doing an I Spy quilt, so I don't have any ideas. Thanks for having the giveaway. Blessed be, hugs!!!

ReplyDeleteOh yes...I'm already a Follower too! :)
fun projects, fun blog, fun hop. I just wanted to say I like what you made, but I don't sew clothes so you don't have to put me in the drawing. Thanks
ReplyDeleteLove your idea for the I Spy and it deserves a top spot for today. I also like the measure once, measure twice and buy double idea. I've done a couple of I Spy quilt using a snoball block with black or black and white corners.
ReplyDeleteAdorable quilts! B-)
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love it when an opportunity comes along to move a quilt idea from "dream" to "done"?! You nailed this one and while I like the ND quilt too, your Sue is just too cool! Hey, how about adding the ND logo to the label on the back of the Sue quilt so she and Sue can still make the investigative rounds together?
ReplyDeleteThey are both so cute!!! And what a fun spin on the "I spy" type of quilt. Well done! I'm totally impressed that you got 2 done in that amount of time as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic quilt! I love the fact that Sunbonnet Sue, like many of us "girls," had her own Nancy ambitions. This is one of the most clever quilts I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI love them both!
ReplyDeleteI like your quilts! You did a great job. I don't sew clothes either,Bo's you don't need to put me in the drawing. I just wanted to let you know that I liked your quilts.
