On one of my first trips to Homer Alaska, I saw this BOM in their LQS, Seams to Bee, which sadly is gone now.
It summed up all the beautiful things I saw in their lovely state.
Polar Bears
It summed up all the beautiful things I saw in their lovely state.
Before I could get 2 feet past the register I had signed up for the BOM!
Puffins
Fireweed
Salmon run
Orca
Brown bear
Eagle
Moose
Mountains
Wolf
Loon
(and this one isn't me for once)
:-)
Caribou
(like the great hunter shot below)
Sea Otter
Polar Bears
Eskimo
They covered it all.
The fabrics just make this quilt sing don't they?
I really want one for me now!
This quilt went to my youngest...
The Alaska kid at heart!
Just a note: I am no hunter and didn't let the boys play with toy guns growing up.
So where does this hunting thing come from? I must confess, Ole Boo, hangs over my fireplace and strangely enough I just love seeing him every day. If you have never eaten Caribou, it's fantastic.
I shudder to say that Moose is just as good! Sorry MooseStash, but its true!
:-)
I loooovvvvveee your quilt. I was to Homer, Alaska a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a beautiful place and your quilt captures it. My aunt lives up there and would love a quilt like that., although so would I.
What a beautiful quilt. I especially love the loon. Fabulous birds! Do you still have the patterns? Finding fabric may be difficult but who doesn't love fabric shopping. BTW I like cows and I like cheeseburgers. I love venison and deer too. It's okay to like moose. (I am happy to not eat elephants though.)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt. I have that pattern! I love caribou and moose too! I don't hunt and my husband doesn't have time...very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWow, Joan, that is stunning! I bet your son was more than excited to get that quilt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt - what a treasure! Yes, I love batiks for the deep, rich colors.
ReplyDeleteI never did acquire the taste for caribou, or moose for that matter. But never could pass up some good reindeer sausage though. Not really a fish eater either LOL I guess I wasn't a very good Alaskan. Love the quilt. I have several wall hanging patterns that are similar. I finished one of a caribou on a lake but never put the binding on because I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it as a wall hanging. I might save it and make my others and fit it into a quilt. Its a beautiful way to remember Alaska.
ReplyDeleteFantastic quilt. I agree that it really represents the state extremely well. Great sewing from you, too! I can see why it appealed to you.
ReplyDeleteStopped by for the blog hop and saw your AK quilt - it's beautiful! I love AK and had some wonderful peanut butter pie at the Fireweed in Homer. I will have to look for this pattern.

ReplyDeleteDo you have the pattern for any of these blocks or know where it could be found? A deceased Quilting friend of mine has 6 of these blocks fabric packs with pieces labeled, but no pattern.
