Welcome to the first day of our "Nuts About ?" blog hop.
With a name like that, who wouldn't want to participate.
We all have something we are nuts about. Most of us quilters are just "goobers" to start off with!
;-)
Marian must have tapped into that idea, to come up with this great hop.
A big thanks to you Marian for bringing us all together again.
I do hope, that you all sit down "almond" us and enjoy.
Hot off the longarm... my
Allietare 2015
I "pecan" a fan of Bonnie Hunter, long ago. I love her style, the way she can use up the tiniest scrap of fabrics, or the most hideous piece in the stash... you know, that one you can't bear to throw away.
Lord knows, I have plenty of them.
LOL!!
There is something about putting the petal to the metal, as they say, and just chain stitching to your hearts content. Many think I am a bit "walnuts" with it all, and it's a "title" I hold dear to my heart!
Now I must admit, I am no fan of mystery quilts. It's not that I don't like them but, I am one who want to know just what I am getting into. I tend to save up all the clues and start it once it's all been revealed.
This year was a bit different. I went "pistachio" and thru caution to the wind, although I did go with the colors that Bonnie picked out.
Below are the past few years of my Bonnie,
mystery quilts that I have completed.
Well, sorta...
That quilting fairy hasn't seemed to get them all quilted just yet.
Darn her!
:-)
Grand Illusion 2014
Celtic Solstice 2013
The last time I decided to be a rebel, I went with colors I loved. We have a "Bonnie Hunter" club here in Denver and our fearless leader told me I needed more contrast. She spent endless time with me and the color wheel. Did I listen to her??? Oh "cashew" no! After all, I knew my colors looked fabulous together. Well as you can see, Celtic Solstice just doesn't have that punch that it needs. It's my "if only" quilt. If only I would learn to listen. Rules, so many rules!
LOL!!
Easy Street 2012
Orca Bay 2011
This biggie is 3 times the size of the original pattern, and to this day
holds the title of my all time favorite quilt.
Could it be that Orca border I added???
;-)
Carolina Christmas 2010
So I guess I can wrap this up, by saying I'm just "NUTS"
over scrappy quilts.
The stash busting, the chain piecing, (unless of course I've run out of bobbin! Don't ask me how I know about that! :-) "Scrap quilts" are the roots of quilting, and they are just...well, the mixed nuts of life that drive me!
I hope you've enjoyed my little trip down the piecing road. If your new to Bonnie Hunter, you can find it at Quiltville.com
She hosts a mystery quilt once a year at Thanksgiving time. It's on her site for a few months, then is published in her next book.
Shes got loads of fabulous free patterns on her site to peruse!
She also has a great blog at
We have some great sponsors today, so you won't want to miss this chance to enter the give-a-way.
A big round of applause for the Fat Quarter Shop
Also to "Any Pattern.com" for this fabulous Daffodil pattern.
Both are linked for you.

I, too, have an "if only" from one of Bonnie's mysteries. Yours look wonderful, though! Beth @ Words & Stitches (pbstrand@msn.com)
ReplyDeleteYour quilts looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteI don't do mysteries either, I'd hate to put in all that work only to find at the end that I don't like the pattern. Your Celtic Solstice looks brilliant to me.

I love all your quilts. I am way behind on my allterite
ReplyDeleteI love all your quilts. I am way behind on my allterite
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful! I love to visit blog hops and hopefully it will give me inspiration to get into my sewing room and my scraps and fabrics. I only make small projects, but it has been som while since I did anything.
ReplyDeleteYou are nuts in a great way! Beautiful quilts, I have made two of them.
ReplyDeleteAll your quilts are stunning! The one with the orcas is my favorite
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your Nuttiness, and you are seriously crazy if you think Celtic Solstice is a fail.. OMG...I love love love those colors together.. Their isn't a quilt on this post that isn't wonderful tho. I to feel the same about Mystery Quilts, I wouldn't mind so much if they showed us the end result first at least I could warm up my fabrics prior to doing it.. The mystery to me is in what we'll be doing next.. I won't touch a mystery quilt either tho until the block is revealed, because I just like to use colors where I want or think they should be and I would be extremely upset if lets say I made a penguin, and a purple ended up in the face. I just couldn't do it. :) I won't even risk it.. I'm that stuck in my ways. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating in Nuts About, I love that your here with us.
I love scrappy quilts too but haven't tried one of Bonnie's yet. They sure are gorgeous though!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts, I like your color combinations.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts! I also prefer to know ahead, where I am heading to. But a mystery is also fun to do and actually one of my very first quilts was am mystery, lol!
ReplyDeleteHugs Martina
Your quilts look amazing, and I can tell you are nuts for quilting:)
ReplyDeleteLovely quilts! Love Bonnie's pattern - mine still wimps!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are all beautiful! I especially love the orcas!
ReplyDeleteI love all your quilts! You did a great job with your scraps!
ReplyDeleteThose orcas make your quilt special! Bonnie turned me into a scrappy quilter too and I agree with you about mysteries.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful quilts and they are each so large......jealous!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. The quilts are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Joan, I'm not into small pieces unless it happens to be applique.
ReplyDeleteHow are you feeling? Thinking of you.
I love BH, too. Adjusted my scrap user's system from her wonderful insight. I've done half of her mystery quilts. This is just a beautiful display of them and cheers to you for completing each one. Hope you are healing and resting.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that your Celtic Solstice is absolutely amazing. The dark purple pops the "circular" pattern, and the pink pops in the other blocks. I wouldn't have changed anything on it. The other quilts are gorgeous too, I have some of my Bonnie's finished, and others not so much...pretty pattern as well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work. Love it
ReplyDeleteI still haven't finished my Bonnie Hunter quilt:(
ReplyDeleteI think your colors are wonderful on Celtic! I too like the mysteries but...... You never know right?
ReplyDeleteI thought grand illusion had the colors of a carvel cake. When I was done I went to show my husband and he turned on our living room lights which had new LED bulbs. The quilt was blinding! Like neon lights.
So perhaps just go with your instincts and use your colors if your not sure of hers.
I love your Bonnie Hunter quilts!! They are all so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your Bonnie Hunter quilts!! They are all so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh Joan, these are all fabunuts! I do like celtic solstice....they are all a great bag of mixed nuts
ReplyDeleteYou have yourself some lovely quilts there.
ReplyDeleteI'm nuts about scrappy quilts too. And I'm so jealous you've finished Allietare. I'm so close but other projects keeping taking priority! Yours is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMan, I wish I had your talent. I am amazed every time I click on your page. You are such an inspiration to me. I want to be as good as you are one day :)
ReplyDeleteMy first and only mystery quilt was Bonnie's in 2009! I have done a few other of her quilts and even went to one of her workshops - that was really fun! I love her quilts and have one more in my UFO list.
ReplyDeleteMy first Bonnie Hunter quilt was Easy Street. I gave it to one of my daughters and it is their favorite quilt. I have Grand Illusion to a flimsy and work on Allietaire. Love your quilts, and Celtic Solstice is still nice.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you've really impressed me with what you do with scraps. Beautiful quilts...love the orcas!
ReplyDeleteWow--I'm impressed that your mystery quilt is finished already! I have two that have been "in process" for a few years, so I just saved the patterns this time around. Yours are all wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteOh Joan, your Allietare is just gorgeous. I loved seeing all of the other BH mystery quilts as well. I must admit that my favorite quilts are scrappy ones.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are continuing to heal.
Love seeing all the quilts in one post. Keep scraping on.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat's is absolutely a fabulous line up of gorgeous quilts. Nothing nutty about any of it. Waste not want not.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful display of quilts. i am a Bonnie Hunter fan also and just love seeing how each person translates her patterns simply by their choice of color. Don't know how I missed Carolina Christmas but I'll be searching it down later today.
ReplyDeleteAlways a treat
ReplyDeletePretty collection of quilts. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see this collection of Bonnie Hunter's quilts. I've done a couple of them, too, scrappy of course.

When I saw this blog hop, I was thinking of you...you are certainly "walnuts" which fits right in. Loved seeing all those scrappy Bonnie quilts. I have started Celtic Solstice - it's not even a top...yet. Our guild was lucky enough to have Bonnie come last year and I have the Texas Tumbleweeds top nearly done. Thanks for all the nutty sentences. You are a hoot.
ReplyDeleteJoan, I didn't expect to 'see' you today--hope you're healing well. Your Celtic is gorgeous, as are all of your Bonnie Quilts. Orca Bay blows me away--stunning! I don't like all of my results from Mysteries (due to fabric choices) and usually save all the steps and then see 1) if I want to make it and 2) pick my fabrics! I dearly love Bonnie quilts, thanks for the eye candy!
ReplyDeleteMy sister would go nutso over those orcas. Perhaps I should drop her a hint or two (or ten) to make something like that too! :-) The quilts are beautiful - even your if only quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with all the scrap quilts you've done! I'm still working on my list of planned quilts but these are making my scrap collection grow. I expected you to be nuts about moose for this hop! I agree with you about mystery quilts. I want to know what the quilt will look like up front.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I'm seeing stars! Fantastic quilts.
ReplyDeleteRosemary

ReplyDeleteI am with you on the Bonnie Hunter bandwagon. She is outstanding in her designs and I love it when she does QuiltCam. I have a few unfinished "Bonnies" to get to the next stage, so guess I had better get to them.
ReplyDeleteI am one who can't dive in without knowing where I'm going, so I collect Bonnie Hunter mysteries then never make them. I LOVE your quilts. I must push myself to try the next one as it goes along. Thanks for your story.
ReplyDeleteWow you have some beautiful quilts. I am with you on the mystery quilts. Lol! I believe it is definitely a need to know. Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteWow! Allietare is beautiful! Fun post, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pictures of your beautiful quilts. I understand how you feel about mystery quilts. Good for you for not just waiting to see how the mystery turns out, but then going ahead and making the quilt; that's where I sometimes (often) fall short.
