What's better than supporting "Worldwide Quilting Day", than with a bunch of "Quilt Qwazy Queens" getting together for sharing and inspiring?
It's a global event, and nothing makes global friends easier to keep in touch with, than the Internet these days!
Marian, bless her heart, knew that was the case
and rounded us all up for a blog hop.
I've been a "Quilt Qwazy Queen" for over 20 years now, although I've been
sewing for over 55 years! My Aunt taught me how to sew. I'm not really sure just how or why it stuck...
My mom's old Necchi machine hated me.
Every time I sat down with it, the tension went crazy, wadded up thread, coughed and sputtered. My mom, who didn't sew that much at all, would go right over and it would behave like a charm???
I even managed to sew thru my finger and nail with I was a kid.
That blasted needle broke off in 3 pieces in my nail.
We had to go to the Dr to have one of the pieces removed.
I don't think I can remember anything that hurt that bad.
That million pound beast of a machine sits in my basement, taunting me to this day. I'm not sure just why I've kept it...
LOL!
With all those years...comes all those quilts.
Way too many to share.
But I've come to realize just how important sharing is.
Sharing inspires us all and allows our quilts to have a voice.
Recording that voice is the most important.
How many of you take the time to label your quilts?
I, for one stink at it.
And do you document all your treasures?
The Good...
My take of designing!
I love this fusible applique center and just started stitching and
cutting till I had a quilt!
Who needs EQ?
LOL!!
***
The Bad...
Yep, it was bad...Lesson learned, no matter how hard you pull your pieces as you stitch, if they weren't cut correctly, they aren't going to fit together correctly when your done!
My "walk of shame" quilt keeps me humble.
:-)
***
The Ugly...
Heaven knows this is ugly!
It was so much prettier in my mind.
I think it's all that tan and gold.
Let there be a lesson here.
Even if it missed its mark in your eyes, someone is loving it, trust me!
(with the exception of this one, that is)
LOL!!
Seriously though, each quilt has own own story, just like those 3 above. None of which you'd have known, if you hadn't read this.
I've found the perfect solution to document those memories...
and it's free!
I've blogged about this wonderful program before,
but with Worldwide Quilting Day that just past,
I had to share again.
This FREE program is just incredible.
When you open it up, it looks like this.
All the information and stories, your quilt holds along with photos
documented in one place.
You keep track of names, patterns, sizes, batting types, designer, quilter...
the list goes on.
It builds a summary page, as you add things.
A glimpse into your quilting history.
Best yet, it creates greeting and note cards,
with your quilt photos.
And continues to tell your story on the back.
Address labels, business cards...
Even full size album pages you can print out!
Did I mention it's free?
I used to be an ambassador for Quilt Album when it was a paid
program and loved it. The only changes are more features and multiple photos of each quilt we can store, with the free version.
Now that just can't be, you say?
Yes, it is.
But don't take my word for it,
you can read all about it and download your copy
They do ask for donations and in honor of Worldwide Quilting Day,
I do hope that you can show them the love,
with a donation for their generosity.
(I am in no way affiliated, just a loyal lover of this program)
Thanks Marion and all of my fellow bloggers.
Go forth and prosper...while your documenting your hearts out!

Thanks for sharing your story, your wonderful quilts, and the information on Quilt Album. BTW I don't think your "bad" and "ugly" are either of those things!
ReplyDeleteGreat post~ and I don't think your 'bad' quilt is that bad. I'm sure it's being used and loved, and that's what matters, right??! LOL
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of Flying Geese. Yours look fine to me. I didn't realize there was a program for quilt record-keeping, thanks. nelljeancam@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this free program to document your quilts. Looks really interesting. thank for the great giveaway.

ReplyDeleteI love that santa/tree pattern . . . . and the colors would surely grow on one. :) I am not a good enough quilter to document much of anything -- but I do 'document' my little projects on my blog. :)
ReplyDeleteWow for the program and thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the link to the documentation program. I do label my quilts but that only holds basic information. There's so much more to their story.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and fun quilts Joan. This has been a inspiring hop, but today for some reason I feel deflated when looking at my work. Guess I'll get over it. Anyway I'm going to check out the album site. Someday you're going to have to share how and/or where you get the multi quilt pictures .
ReplyDeleteHugs

Love your statement, Sharing Inspires! I will checkout the Quilt Album, thanks.
ReplyDeletepatsystitch@gvtc.com
I started off labeling and documenting my quilts, but just stopped somewhere along the line.
ReplyDeletecork@pa.rr.com
Thank you sooooo much for the link to the computer program. I need to go pour another cup of tea and sit down and play!
ReplyDeleteFrom our first quilt to present is quite a lot of learning, I agree. Pressing forward is just joy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Quilt Album info, I'll look into it!
ReplyDeleteI do take pictures of my quilts and make labels for them, but I don't really go further than that, thanks to your blog post today I am going to go right over an download that program so I can document my projects fully in the future. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI always love your blog.
My email is: bestbelle2010@aol.com
Thanks for sharing some of your quilts. I love reading and being inspired by other quilter's stories. Thanks for sharing about Quilt Album. I do keep pictures and info about each of my quilts.
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to look back at our work and see why it did or did not work for us. I think you need to go down and show that Necchi who is boss in your home!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Album Quilt looks like a great program. I am going to have to check it out. Thank you.
I do take pictures of my quilts for posting on my blog. May write a little story but that is about it.
ReplyDeletesyvisser@gmail(dot)com
I remember when you turned me onto that program.. I'll go and donate, I don't remember seeing the donation button before, but I will, because it is amazing software and I'm loving it.
ReplyDeleteNow, to your projects... as I have often said before, I'll take any of your throw aways, any day of the week.. I love everything you do.. You totally amaze me, and you not only make great projects, but you have an amazing and wonderful attitude. If I were a stalker, I'd be your #1 best fan.. hehe I even like the gold quilt, I love how you added the buttons in the stars right in the center, it gives a really nice effect. As to signing, I always sign, but I admit, I use my embroidery machine now to do it with as it gets a nice clean easy to read signature.
I bet you keep the Necchi because of the fond memories you have of it, even the frustrations bring back the memory.. so that's why I think it's still around.. I am like that with my old Singer.. Until I bought a newer machine, I hadn't realized just how bad a seam it actually stitched. :)
Love ya!!
We all have the good, the bad and the ugly ones. I'm going to look closely at QuiltAlbum because at first glance it looks great. Thank you for sharing your quilts.
ReplyDeleteyour creations are so lovely. i enjoy following your blog. thanks for sharing and for inspiring.
ReplyDeletequilting dash lady at comcast dot net
I do enjoy reading your blog through my blogshelf app! Your thoughts about your your not so great quilts sure sound familiar. There are a few still folded up waiting to be quilted, and you know what? They will be!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
krbassoc57@gmail.com
Thanks for introducing me to the free software. Looks very useful. Love the variety of your quilts.
ReplyDeleteOops, forgot to say that I am not very good at documenting my quilts. Maybe the software would help.
DeleteIt's always a pleasure visiting your blog to see your latest creations, but today it was so fun to read your quilt story. Thanks for sharing the link for the software...I'll be checking it out. I have a few/several of those "Walk of Shame" quilts, too!
ReplyDeleteI do post about them on my blog (which has been very neglected lately) And I have a notebook with dates and names. But I'm sure I could do a batter job!!
ReplyDeleteHi,yes I try to by photo, name+date. However I do baby charity quilts and sometimes in my enthusiasm I forget. Thanks for your blog+giveaway too! msstitcher1214@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI always label my quilts but I quit documenting about 30 years ago. I guess it is easier now but I don't take the time. I so love your quilts. Jmikebalou (at) aol dot com
ReplyDeleteJoan-
ReplyDeleteI've been sewing for over 60 years! I learned as a girl scout in the fourth grade and earned my dressmaking badge!
Why, when I fill out the rafflecopter form to win something it displays "enter a valid email address" when I've been using my email address for over 10 years? Thanks
Rosemary
Great post. I love that you shared the good, the bad, and the ugly. You always have such fun posts and great projects going.
ReplyDeleteAlways a treat, Joan....love your work and that album!!!
ReplyDeleteI am not good about labeling or documenting my quilts.
ReplyDeleteI keep a photo (an actual print!) of each quilt or project. It has the date it was made and the pattern printed on the back. I also have digital photos of all my quilts since about 2001 when we got our first digital camera. And my flickr feed includes information about all the quilts posted there. This program sounds interesting though, might have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteI don't document my quilts and I should. I need to label all of them as well, before giving them away. I love that quilt album software, thank you for sharing that link, I never had heard of it before. Also love your purple moose! Is he/she on a quilt of yours? :)
ReplyDeleteI have been taking pictures, but I will check out Quilt Album. crystalbluern at tds dot net
ReplyDeleteI am sooo bad at documenting my quilts. I've had Quilt Album forever & only have 3 quilts in it. But you have inspired me! I didn't know QA did all those things! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour Qwazy is so Qweative!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your quilts (and your sense of humor) especially the "bad" and the "ugly". Thanks!
ReplyDeletePlease click on the delaineelliott above for my email link.
You have made so many beautiful quilts. I can tell you really enjoy what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteYou have made so many beautiful quilts. I can tell you really enjoy what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your quilt show! Thanks for the info about Quilt Album.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful! When I look at all the great quilts in the blogs, I feel I am only a "want to be" quilter. I only make table runners and bags with simple quilting, but enjoy it very much. I take picture of what I make and write about it in my blog. Hppay Easter!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your story. I have similar experience with my mother's Singer Featherweight. I swear that thing hated me, though it didn't go so far as to sew a needle through my finger. I am so glad that the experience didn't discourage you from learning to quilt. I enjoyed seeing what you have made.

I try to keep track of my different craft and quilt projects. Quilt album sounds great. Thank you for sharing it. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI didn't at first but I do know. It's fun to go back and see how you have improved and to enjoy your accomplishments. alexplus4@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWow, you have some terrific quilts...and thanks for reminding me of the online program...I have it downloaded, just haven't taken the time to use it..I do at least label all my quilts!!
ReplyDeleteHi Joan--wonderful eye candy here (including 'bad' and 'ugly'--I like them both!!) I'm off to check out the online program. thanks
ReplyDeleteSuch an information filled blog. Thank you for the photos. I think we all have had the bad, we learn from them and hopefully create more good. I am going to check out Quilt Album. That is just what I need. Never heard of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm Margo at onlydiamonds at hotmail dot com. I LOVE your ugly quilt! Though beauty is in eyes of the beholder! I was told at my first quilt class years ago that you must have some yellow in a quilt for it to be a true quilt! Don't think it's true, but I do love that ugly quilt of yours! Thank for the chance to win your giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLove the bear quilt! aynot1983@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThank you -- a most interesting story, and I enjoyed your quilts. lynnstck(at)yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteQuilt album looks like a great idea. I will have to look into it. I do label my quilts. I used to make a very involved label but sometimes that held me up from finishing it. I now use the preprinted labels and am happy with them.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful! I love the bear and your ugly quilt. Thank you for the info and link to the Quilt Album. I am going to go download it now.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful! I love the bear and your ugly quilt. Thank you for the info and link to the Quilt Album. I am going to go download it now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the story of your quilting journey. I've never taken the time to document anything about my quilts with the exception of pictures on my very neglected blog. Thanks for the link to the Quilt Album site. It looks like a great way to record information on quilts.
ReplyDeleteI take a picture of it and make a label. That's as documented as I get. The quilt I spent the most money on to make, and time to hand color the label, fancy lettering, etc for my niece's first baby is now seen in pictures, on the floor, for the dog to sleep on. Never was used for a quilt for the boy.
ReplyDeleteDigital photos have made assembling quilts so much easier for me. Thank you for all you show us in your blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! You have a great variety of wonderful quilts and I think we all have that "ugly" quilt somewhere in our journey. The Quilt Album app looks interesting. I do label most of my quilts now but don't record them anywhere. Thanks! sewgood414athotmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on Quilt Album. I need to start documenting my quilts. I have pics of some, labeled a few but have not been consistent in either. Thanks for being part of this blog hop so I could have a chance to visit your blog.
ReplyDeletetushay3 (at) yahoo (dot) com
I have documented my quilts by photos. Who they are for, when they were made. Not all of them though. I need to work on that. Thank you for sharing your story and talent!
ReplyDeleteDmac5958ataoldotcom
fun quilts and I'm going to check out that program, what a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of that program. It sounds great. I do label all my quilts and have since the beginning. I also document them in a word document complete with photographs. It was nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNo but i take a pocture of them to show my mom in michigan... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI will check out that program. You quilts are fantastic
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are lovely, even the ugly ones. If you hadn't said there was anything wrong, we never would have guessed. I am going to check out the Quilt Album program. Thanks for sharing. raydeer@memlane.com
ReplyDeleteI have tried the Quilt Album, but keep forgetting to use it...
ReplyDeleteI am working on my first quilt now. So no documenting yet. But I have a feeling that this is the start to many many many many more.... Guess I better figure out how I might keep track of them all. :) Thank you for sharing your story!
ReplyDeletedebbygrawn at yahoo dot com
I will have to check out that site! I think IG is a pretty good documentation for all of the things I finish. grecomara at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI am still working on my first quilt so I haven't documented anything yet. I am going to label it though. Thanks for sharing your quilts. vickise at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I'm going to check out that album. I do document (some thru my blog) and have spent some time recently getting myself organized again by doing an inventory.
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the program you suggest. The only documenting I've done is in my blog - would be better though to have it all organized. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's been great learning new things about all you 'Quilt Qwazy Queens'. I've tried to keep track of all my quilting/sewing projects over the past few years; that's just a few when I realize I've been sewing 64 years. Often, I think about using Snapfish or another such program to make personal albums of my projects. Having a program that saves so much information like Quilt Album sounds like a great idea and I am going to check it out; thanks for the referral.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started quilting, I did document the quilts I made, but got away from it. Thanks for mentioning the free download.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilting story. Appreciate the info about documenting. I have been very lax in that area.

Beautiful quilts, Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your quilting journey. I really enjoy making labels for my quilts and always make sure I attach one to every quilt.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely check out the program. Thanks for sharing your good and your bad!
ReplyDeleteI always label my quilts and I took pictures of the one I gave away.
ReplyDeletejen dot barnard at btinternet dot com
I've been terrible about documenting my quilts. I've made and given away many, with no photos saved. Just last year I started taking pictures and putting them in a Flickr album. Thank for sharing your quilt show. You are awesomely prolific!
ReplyDeleteLoved hearing all about your quilting journey. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly made me laugh so hard! I can definitely identify! Your quilts are all beautiful. I love the bunny looking up at the flower. Thank you so much for the information on Quilt Album. Sounds so much easier than documenting on my own.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check this out to document my quilts!
ReplyDeleteI will have to check this out to document my quilts!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your quilt journey. I enjoy your blog . The Quilt Album sounds like a must try.
ReplyDeleteI should do a better job documenting my quilts- thanks for sharing such a great resource! I love the cards.
ReplyDeleteYou are incredibly talented!!! Thanks for the tip for the Quilt Album ap, I'm going to check into it!!
ReplyDeleteI am very bad at documenting my quilts. Thanks for sharing the good, bad and ugly.
ReplyDeleteI've not yet documented my quilts, but I will from now on. Thank you for the Quilt Album information. Your quilts are amazing and I enjoyed your stories. mtmom57@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't let that Necchi get the best of you. Your quilts are beautiful. I do label my quilts, but often forget to take pictures (no cell phone, digital camera I don't know how to get pictures from camera to computer). I should look into Quilt Album, but I probably need a teenager to figure out how to use it.

ReplyDeleteI haven't documented any quilts...but have taken pictures. I do label them tho :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info about Quilt Album!! (will get my Daughter to help me do)
I always try and get a good photo of my quilts before I gift them but I never knew there was such great software out there - thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts! Even the bad one doesn't seem that bad to me. lol As for the old Necchi...I had to laugh at the story of how it gave you fits, but worked like a charm for your mom. I have one that is forty years old now and fortunately, it has never given me an ounce of trouble. I dearly love that machine and it is an incredible workhorse!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on getting your book published!
Well, the Santa is cute! LOL
ReplyDeleteI haven't made enough quilts to really document other than pictures. I'm sure this is a great program to have for those that do make so many.
I keep pics of all of my projects by years, and I keep a notebook with a list so at the end of the year I know how many projects I made.
Beautiful work, the bear quilt is amazing. I just take photos of my completed projects and some in construction pictures.
ReplyDeleteIain.ross30 at gmail dot com
Labeling my Quilts has been a hit and miss thing with me. I do have good of most of my Quilts. Your work is so awesome and I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI take good pictures of my quilts and write a blog post when I finish them. I also label them.
ReplyDeleteMy intentions are good, but sometimes I just don't take the time. This looks like a fabulous program and can't wait to try it. Thanks, not only for sharing, but for the giveaway opportunity. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteWhat a great program and so fun to see your quilts. I too sewed on my mothers machine, gee that was in the 60's and I'm still sewing....and love it....thanks for the chance. sewfabrics@outlook.com
ReplyDeletei just downloaded the quilt album program so will start doing so. I have been keeping notes and dates and photos in a paper calendar so look forward to an electronic version. I am pretty religious about attaching a label on all my quilts, except the ones our Guild donates to our "covers for kids" projects. (The guild may label them as being from the Guild; usually they are a multiple-person project.
ReplyDeleteI'm using my blog to document my quilts at the moment. If I had more time, I'd love to give Quilt Album a try!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog! Thank you for the link to the Quilt Album.
ReplyDeleteThe program that you mentioned sounds very interesting. I have a scrapbook where I have put pictures as well as information about it. I even went back and gathered pictures of favorite clothing I made for our 3 girls as they were growing up. I got into smocking and heirloom sewing when we started having granddaughters, and for the boys I made costumes and pjs. Now I am limiting myself to bibs for baby gifts and quilts. For fun I call my scrapbook my "portfolio." Nancy A: rangers@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteHave you ever counted all the quilts you have made over the years? I know lots are given away but the other thing is how many quilts do you still have at home? And how and where do you store them?
ReplyDeleteYou really have sent my off on a tangent.
Thank you for the link to Quilt Album
ReplyDeleteI adore your quilts. My first time quilting was in grade 7 when we did string embroidery and hand quilted. This was a fund raiser for the grade 8 trip. Now I am addicted to quilting as it is relaxing.I enjoy making scrap quilts.Thank you for a chance to win . Happy Quilting :
ReplyDeleteSo glad you ditched the purple cast! Lol. I had a purple cast once, too, but I only had to wear it for two weeks... Lucky, huh? I love that quilt album program. I've been trying to keep a journal, but there's no pictures. Thanks, Joan.
ReplyDeleteLoved reading your history - good, bad and ugly, we all have them! blessings, marlene
