I love the fact, that Carol just can't stand to be idle.
Give her a free minute and her mind "seams" to go right
to another fun blog hop idea!
I'm always ready to jump on board and bust thru some of my stash.
I think the reality that I have more stash than years to live,
has started to settle in...Well, that and the fact that I just acquired 5 boxes
of fabric from a gentleman who's wife passed away.
It's always a treasure trove when you go thru someone else's stash.
I found this 60" wide piece of sweatshirt material...
Fleece is a great backing on quilts, so why not try this?
Back in 2016, Pat Sloan had a pattern for a bumble bee pouch
that you can find it
A plan was hatched and I was off and running!
My favorite way of designing is to make it up on the fly...
ummm that would be "bee" in this case!
LOL!!!!
I made up enough blocks to fit the size backing I had.
Then played around with layout ideas.
A little backwards, I know.
I keep saying I'm going to learn to use that EQ program I had to have...
but even I know it's not going to happen anytime soon!
:-)
UPDATE...I've had a few of you ask about using sweatshirt material for the backing.
It worked great on the long arm, and I didn't use any batting, so it
makes for a nice lightweight "summer" quilt! This was a happy experiment,
and I will be looking at this for future backings!

It was not without one of those "oh crap" moments.
Sadly, they happen all more frequently than I prefer to admit here.
LOL!!
Now, if you've made star blocks before,
you know there are lots of leftover half square triangles.
Being on that waste not, want not crazy...
I started stitching and trimming the extras.
What a fun way to use it, not loose it!
This bundle of joy measures 28" x 37".
Or would that be "bumble" of joy?

LOL!
We've been busy in the oasis.
Toilets to plant and a new bathtub to fill
This sweet new addition is Buster!
If you look closely, he is peeing in a bucket!
LOL!!!!!
My family had him made for me for Christmas.
For those of you who have followed me for awhile,
you know my sense of humor tends to run off the rails, from time to time.
This is another one of those time.
:-)
Yep, what can I say...
...but welcome to my crazy fun world!
hahahahaha
My fellow bloggers have been gazing up into the stars
and have lots to share with you too.
Stop in and see em.

Joan, you have done it again! You always amaze me with your creativity and projects ... and your wonderful sense of humor ... lol! Your star quilt is bee-utiful! I really love the Bumble of Joy quilt made with the cut-off HSTs. I have also come to the reality that I have more fabric than I will ever have time to sew ... maybe I should pack it all off to you ... if anyone has a chance to get 'er done, it is you, my friend ... :-) Pat!
ReplyDeleteI love the Bees!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous projects, amazing creativity, and the bees are just smashing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute way to use up fabric you don't know what to do with. I love bee motifs.
ReplyDeleteI love getting others' stash, most of the time it is definitely not fabric I would have picked. It forces me to get out of my comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteI want Buster! I am still laughing out loud and I'm gonna show hubby. This post is a corker, I love your quilts, your honesty and your garden. Joan, you have made my evening. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat star quilts, love your mini!
ReplyDeleteOh look at all the fun stuff you got into. Love both quilts and who wouldn't love a mini tub of gorgeous blooms?!!
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are beautiful and look so nice on that green grass in the sunshine. I love all the fun in your garden. I think I would like you to come over to my place to work on my garden because I just can't keep up.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are so adorable!! I love them. They are so bright and cheery! Your yard looks great also!!
ReplyDeleteBoth your quilts are so creative and BEE-utiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your adorable bee quilt and the matching mini! Buster is a lovely addition to your garden.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of the Oh crap moments. But your two quilts came out beeutiful! Love your bees. Your garden addition is fabulous. I am sure we will see more pictures of Buster in the future.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific way to start this star filled event. Love both of your quilts. I'm impressed with quilt number 2. In my life I would have thought about doing those HST's but they would first have to spend time in a baggy or bin. Love, love, love Buster.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post, Joan?..love both your quilts!
ReplyDelete.good to see you Joan. You started my day with a smile. Every thing is so cute, your imagination never stops. Have a great day
ReplyDeleteI do believe I'm not the only one who can't stand to be idle. You made TWO amazingly gorgeous star quilts...wow! That you used all those scraps to make another quilt is awesome. I love them both! You definitely don't sit idly around when it comes to your "oasis." Your humor is what makes me love to visit and you never cease to amaze me with your quilting and your humor. Thanks for being a star today in the hop!
ReplyDeleteI really love both of your quilts. I want to know what you think of the sweatshirt backing now that it is all done? Do you prewash any of your fabrics. Wondering how tshirt fabric would be? I have quite a bit of both leftover from sewing for kids.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts! I would also like to know how the sweatshirt fabric quilted up. Love your oasis, and Buster is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Joan and I love all the cute things in your yard!
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful quilts! Congratulations on using your stash the cute finishes!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are great! They both have two of my favorite things. Stars and my favorite color, RED! Your garden decor cracks me up! :D
ReplyDeleteJoan, I LOVE your quilts AND your yard!!
ReplyDeleteIt is always so much fun to see what you come up with for these hops. I doubt that your mind is ever idle either! Both quilts are wonderful. I love the bright stars and those bees are precious in them. Your yard always makes me giggle. That new addition is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt is a two for one deal idea which is great. Plus the idea of sweatshirt backing is a wow plan and.....how cozy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to start my Monday! Love your quilts, bright and cheery - especially using those leftovers so well. And I appreciate your sense of humor. In years past in the different places I have lived, I have had toilet full of flowers, an old bathtub filled with impatiens, and many other (what some may think odd) pieces of yard art and plant containers.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love the bees!
ReplyDeleteThese are great..buzz buzz!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts. How small are those HSTs in the smaller quilt? I agree, waste not want not and nothing better than getting someone's free stash. I hope it plays well with what you already have. I showed my husband, Tu-Na Helper, your toilet flower planters. He thought they were clever and would make a good conversation piece.
ReplyDeletelove your stars, Great Dog!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Joan! What a joy to see your creations ... lovely share and even lovelier personality! Thank you for the smiles 😃
ReplyDeleteHi Joan,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt - both of them! I just love using up those little extra HSTs right away rather than saving them or throwing them away. Perfect use of the found sweatshirt material, and I'll bet that friend's wife is smiling down on you. Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Beautiful. We don't like to waste fabric do we!
ReplyDeleteLove all the triangles! Buster is awesome!
ReplyDeletenikilsend(at)outlook(dot)com
Love those quilts. I don’t know if I would attempt all those triangles. It’s nice to know the sweatshirt fabric makes a good backing.
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! Great combination of stars and bees!
ReplyDeleteJoan, you are one wild and crazy gardener. This is an adorable project, though I'm not sure about sweatshirt backing - that's a new one. =) I do like the way you adapted from this and that to come up with a plan for your quilt.
ReplyDeleteLoooove your Quilts...using your leftovers made such a sweet one too! AND your Oasis is so cool! Love Buster...lol Too fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt I love stars and there just fun to whip up...ty for sharing yours.... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThose are two great quilts! Not only are you a great quilt designer and maker, you are prolific! I don't think I have more stash that years to live, but there are more quilts that I want to make than years to live! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are awesome! I'm thinking you don't need that EQ software when you can figure things out yourself. Love them both! Thanks for sharing. (Love your yard too!)
ReplyDeleteI love Buster. Thank you for the smile.
ReplyDeleteI just love your quilt and the quilt from the leftovers!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I adore Buster. He is hysterical. Where in the world did you find a treasure like Buster? I love the bee quilts. I can only imagine the size of those HSTs. You are awesome. I love all the inspiration and I really haven't met anyone yet who doesn't love stars.
ReplyDeleteThey are both just lovely!! So cool to use up the leftovers like that! xx
ReplyDeleteLove these quilts! The dog statue is just too funny. I love both, but the smaller one is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove both Quilt! And your deco is gorgeous and so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteI so agree that fleece makes a great backing. Not only does it help to keep you comfortable, but it also stays in place, so you don't have that sliding off the bed or body factor. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the bee-utiful quilt, fun and different, and Buster made me laugh... so cute!!!
Very pretty star quilt. I love the layout. I am not sure I could make it. It looks difficult to layout.
ReplyDeleteLove it! You've been "buzzy" quilting.
ReplyDeleteLove your star quilt and putting those precious left overs into a sweet mini. I think your kind of crazy is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh Joan, these are beautiful quilts. Your quilting is so perfect too. You always make me smile and that puppy dog has me giggling. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI just love those little bumblebees!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bunch of bees!! Love the way you work out how to make your quilt. And now boxes more fabric to add to your pile.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see your garden blooming. Buster is the perfect addition. Quite a character.
