Welcome to my day to share, in the "Time in a Bottle" blog hop.
Carol at "Just Let Me Quilt" dreamed up this fun hop, to show all the ways you can use "hour glass" blocks and the timing couldn't have been better for me. I had just started the Bonnie Hunter "Rhododendron" mystery quilt. There are lots of little hour glass blocks...lets just say over 200 of them little buggers!
For a change I even managed to keep up with this mystery weekly, for almost the entire time. Cutting, stitching, more cutting, more stitching. If there is one thing Bonnie does better than anyone else I know, it's how she uses up the craziest and even some of the ugliest scraps I've seen, and comes up with the most beautiful quilts in doing so.
This is my "Rhododendron Trail" quilt.
If you look close, you will notice that all those hour glass blocks make up a secondary design, throughout the quilt.
This quilt is 83" x 96" and was so big, I really didn't have a good place to hang it, to show it off at it's best. Here it is hanging on my long arm rail prior to quilting it.
A simple overall quilting design and this baby is done.
Now hop on over and see what my fellow bloggers have in their Hour Glasses!
Be sure to leave them a little love while your there too.
A big thanks to Carol, our hostess with the mostess! You rocked another fun hop for us all.
til next time...
Keep on Stitchin'
WOW just gorgeous. That is a LOT of little hourglass blocks.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the beautiful finish and for mostly keeping up with Bonnie's mystery! The colours are lovely and the quilting is just right. What a lot of hourglasses!
ReplyDeleteJoan I wrote my comment and it just disappeared into the air. Darn!. Your quilt is a beauty. My Rhododendron mystery quilt is still in the assembly stage, and I am making it a bit bigger than half size. Congratulations on a great finish
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I type and it goes into lala land. LOL!! Hang in there with the assembly. I was a little intimidated with the tiny sashings, but it all worked out, once I got out of my own head. I would love to see yours when your done.
DeleteA beautiful quilt and the colours are pretty! But wow that's a lot of hourglass blocks.
ReplyDeleteMoosestash Joan, this is a great quilt finish! The color mix is outside the box (for me) and works really well. I love your choice of the bright yellow for a backing. I’m loving the pink and yellow together. I noticed that secondary hour glass design just before reading you mention it. That is always fun to see those bonus unintended designs pop out.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is AMAZING! The colors just shout spring, which needs to get here soon.
ReplyDeleteJoan, this is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are beautiful and the piecing is amazing! That flying geese border is awesome too--I think I would have drawn the line at that. LOL! Great work--glad you shared it with us!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, this is big and beautiful! Congratulations on your timely finish, it's a wowzer for sure.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I have all my red and white peices cut out for this same project but then I got side tracked.... they are still sitting on the ironing board in a bowl though so I don't forget about them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! So many tiny hourglass blocks, and you've finished it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is one fantastic "baby" of a quilt!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is fantastic, Joan! You are right about Bonnie Hunter and using up those ugly fabrics to make something gorgeous! I think she's a genius but has a lot more patience than I! LOL Congrats on your finish!
