Bee Kind Blog Hop...It's my Day!

I'm so excited about this hop. There is nothing more fun that sharing a little kindness with each other, especially in the times we are living in. So grab your fuzzy slippers and cuppa, kick back and enjoy the posts this week.

My project is Nancy Halvorsen's "Be Attitudes" quilt. I have had the book for a very long time. It was time to pull it off the shelf and blow the dust off of it.
Her quilt is done in dark colors and I have always loved it, but I had a bag of strips of leftover fabrics that was overflowing, so I decided to make it more of a grab, what I have and see where it takes me, kind of quilt. I did make an effort to try to keep like fabrics apart from each other and sort of co-ordinate the block fabrics, but it didn't always work out that way.

Here are the blocks and their special "Be" messages...

I have to be honest, when I was piecing the background blocks and putting them up on the design wall, it looked horrible. I came really close to throwing it all away, but...

I decided to take the leap and just see what happened when the appliques went on them.

I couldn't believe what a difference that made.

There were hiccups...I really need to learn to read first and not just jump in and start things. I thought I was so smart scanning the pages and reversing them on the printer. I traced, fused and cut out all the block pieces before I realized the pattern had already been reversed for me.
Eye roll here!
That made a bit of a challenge for placing the words...but

...in the end, it really became a "Joyful" quilt.

Next up...
This is "Bee Grateful" designed by Lisa Capen Quilts
What a fun project to do and I finally put my favorite piece of snow dyed fabric to use.

Lastly...I've been working on kennel quilts the past couple of weeks.
The little quilt club I belong to, has been making these for years.

I'm doing the happy dance with 108 quilts, quilted and ready to deliver to animal shelters in need. In fact, 36 of those quilts went to California and Nevada to help with the animals that have been effected by the wild fires, already.
I went on a mission to clean up all the old fabric I have stashed in every corner of this place and make a few puppies and kitty's happy, too.

The paper pieced star quilt is a leftover block and probably the fanciest kennel quilt, this girl will ever make. LOL!!
Got scraps and want to warm a little furry friends heart?

  1. Joan, I like how you made your "Be Attitudes" quilt with bright cheerful colors! I too have that book and have not even made one single block from it yet! Now I need to find it in the bookcase and make at least one block, lol! You are so kind to make so many pet quilts too. You are the Queen Bee of Be Kind!

  2. LOVE your quilt--sew glad you finished it! Wow, that is A LOT of kennel quilts! One member of our quilt guild makes beds for the animal shelters, using our small scraps for stuffing. Very admirable! Thanks for sharing and hosting this hop, Joan!

  3. That quilt is kindness personified. I love the accidental color combos. I also make those kennel quilts but randomly. I think you just shamed me back into action, not your kind of action but I will kindly make a few..

  5. Oh my, Joan, you've been a busy bee! What a gorgeous quilt with so much goodness within its blocks and sayings! Plus, you learned to bee patient with yourself as you re-worked those reversed appliques! Kennel quilts are a new idea for me and one I will put on my list for those loving creatures waiting for a home.

  8. I don't think my random thinking brain could have done this nice of a job on a quilt made of scraps. Wow! It turned out to be a work of art. Love it! What a great gift of mats for all those animals in need. The "Bee Grateful" quilt is so pretty in your precious dyed fabrics. You really met the challenge to "Bee Kind" on this blog hop! Thanks, Joan!

I think the mix of stripes in your blocks has worked well in the first quilt. They are a fun collection of blocks and lovely sayings..
And Bee Grateful is so sweet, too. Yes, the background is a stunning piece.
I am blown away with all the kennel quilts. What a great cause.
