It's that time of the year. The time we start thinking about what we are thankful for. So grab your favorite cuppa, and see what this "Gnome" thing is all about!
Did you know that gnomes and their lore originated in Europe. They lived in dark places like the underground and deep in the forests. They were mischievous little guys, but in time they took on very different meanings. In Scandinavia they are known as industrious, kind and wise. They are seen as guardians of nature and animals. In more recent times, the "Tomte" is considered to be helpers to Santa at Christmas. Gnomes were made famous in Germany in the mid 1800's as garden decorations. I had to laugh when I read that garden gnomes have become targets of pranks, some being kidnapped and sent on trips around the world. Can you imagine having to pay a ransom to get your garden gnome back?
Yep, that's why I told you to grab your cuppa. You can enjoy it with me and my little coffee lovin Gnommie!
I found this sweet guy as clipart online, then when I stumbled on this border fabric
My Gnome stuffy is just 10" tall, but sports a hat that's 32" long. It's crazy easy to put together, yet has been in rolling around in my to-do pile for waaaaaaaay to long. :-) He's a free pattern from "Shecansew.com" in fact you can find it right HERE. I may or may not have a gnome army started for every season, in my sewing room. Feel free to kidnap one of them and sent em on a world tour, I will even escort em! HAHAHA
Sew that's what's been happening here! Check out what my fellow bloggers have in store for Thanksgiving. Make sure you thank them with a sweet comment.
Adorable wall quilt, and gnome. Thank you for the free pattern also. The info about gnomes is very interesting.

ReplyDeleteYou are too funny, and I really love your gnomes. I think that they'd be great companions for traveling!
ReplyDeleteAren't they adorable. Great wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteAnd your real gnome is great fun. Yes, I can see lots of them.
I can remember when people used to kidnap the gnomes years ago. The thieves/gnomenappers would leave notes about where to find them, or to pay a ransom. And some just hated seeing gnomes in gardens and warned people to get rid of them or they would steal them.
It is funny how they are now trendy.
Such cute gnomes, Joan! That border fabric is perfect for the season! I especially like your gnome with the LONG hat! I have made several of those gnomes but have never thought about a longer hat--love it!
